Kollu (Horse gram) Rasam


To crush :

Cumin seeds (Jeera) -   1 tbs

Pepper - 1/2 tsp

Garlic - 10 pods

Small onion - 2 nos

Dry  chillies - 4 nos

Curry leaves - a  few


Ingredients :

Horse gram (Kollu) - 1/2 cup

Tamarind  -  1 (lemon size)

Tomatos - 2 nos

Coriander leaves - a hand full 

Turmeric - 1/4 tsp 

Mustard - 1/4 tsp

Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp

Salt - To taste

Method :

Pressure cook the  kollu  with a tsp oil , turmeric, 1 tomato and a pinch of salt.

Drain the water for rasam and the cooked kollu is use to made chutney. 

Squeeze the tamarind with another tomato, salt  and keep it a side.

Keep a kadai  on the stove  put oil  add mustard asafoetida  and the crushed items, 

saute well not allow to burn  and  add the tamarind extraction .

After a few minutes add the drained kollu water and  stir well to mingle with rasam.

Garnish with coriander leaves...
