Ingredients:
Red gram dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 no(chopped)
Carrot - 1 cup (peeled ,Washed and chopped)
Tomato - 1 no(chopped)
Tamarind paste - 1 tbs
Green chilly - 1 no (chopped)
Garlic - 4 pods
Red chilly powder - 1 tbs
Coriander powder - 2 tbs
Sambar powder - 1tbs
Fenugreek powder - 1tsp
Turmeric powder - 1tsp
Asafoetida - a pinch
Curry leaves - a handfull
Coriander leaves - a handfull
For seasoning:
Oil - for frying
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Black gram dal - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
Red chilly - 1 no
Method:
Wash and cook cook dal with garlic pods and mash
Heat oil in a pan splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, red chilly,
black gram dal, curry leaves and asafoetida.
Then onions with little salt followed by tomatoes, now add red chilly powder,
coriander powder, turmeric powder, sambar powder,
chopped green chillies and then carrot and add required salt, .
Allow this mixture to boil until carrots are cooked.
Now add mashed dhal, finally add tamarind extract and
fenugreek powder and garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with idly or dosa or chappathi or rice.
